Piano Lessons with Confidence, Depth, and Enjoyment…

Sacha Atkinson - Qualified Teacher · Double Masters · Former University Lecturer.

Friendly, experienced piano teacher helping children and adults build confidence, musical skill, and enjoyment — from first notes to exams and performance.

“I offer one-to-one piano tuition for children, teenagers, and adults, tailored to each student’s abilities, interests, and goals — whether that’s learning for pleasure, building skills, or preparing for exams and performance.

My teaching style is supportive and flexible, while still providing the structure and challenge needed for steady progress.

I believe students learn best when they feel able to explore, make mistakes, and develop confidence alongside their technical skills.

My Approach to Teaching

I take a slightly unorthodox approach to piano teaching — light enough to be enjoyable, and deep enough to be genuinely effective. At the heart of my teaching is the belief that confidence supports learning. Musical ability develops most strongly when students feel assured in themselves, so I focus on building self-belief alongside technique, theory, and musicianship through a balance of:

    •    encouragement and appropriate challenge

    •    student-led curiosity and guided skill development

    •    structure combined with creative freedom

I help students develop not only musical competence, but also focus, resilience, and confidence when facing new challenges, skills transferable beyond the reams of music.”

What Students Gain

My lessons are designed to:

    •    build technical and theoretical understanding at an appropriate pace

    •    encourage independence and musical thinking

    •    reduce anxiety around mistakes and assessment

    •    foster enjoyment, curiosity, and long-term engagement with music

For younger students, this means strong foundations built in a positive and motivating way.

For adults, it means learning without pressure or embarrassment, around personal goals and interests.

Experience & Background

I bring a broad and experienced background to my teaching, including:

    •    Double Master’s qualifications in music and communication

    •    A Diploma in Teaching

    •    Former university lecturer

    •    Many years of one-to-one teaching

This experience allows me to adapt my approach to different learning styles, personalities, and levels of confidence.

I aim for a Calm, Supportive Learning Environment

Whether a student is:

    •    just starting out

    •    returning to the piano after many years

    •    working towards grades or performance

    •    or simply playing for enjoyment

My aim is always the same: to help them feel capable, supported, and confident in their progress.

Sessions are based in your own home - so owning a piano/keyboard is essential.

I currently have regular available slots Thursday and Saturday.
